Sisters Uptown Bookstore

Through Design Advocates, BAAO worked with Sisters Uptown Bookstore, a minority woman-owned bookstore in Washington Heights, to replace its existing storefront with a more open and welcoming presence on the street. Design Advocates brings architects and designers together to serve the public good through pro bono design, research, and advocacy.
The new storefront introduces increased glazing and an integrated bookshelf-bench that extends the bookstore into the public realm, creating a place for visitors and neighbors to browse books, sit, and gather along the sidewalk.
